Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during and after an RTT session?

During your session, we will revisit three memories or “scenes” from your past which your own subconscious mind will choose. These scenes will reveal to you the root cause of your issue and also enable you to free yourself from the issue.

After your session, I will send you a personalized recording between 15 and 20 minutes long which you will need to listen to for at least 21 days in succession. This is an absolutely critical step in the process and the key to permanent results. The RTT session itself changes you, but the recording “wires in” the changes making them permanent. The mind learns by repetition which is why it is so important that you listen for the full 21 days.

I will follow-up with you via email 24 hours after your session to make sure you haven’t had any issues accessing or playing your recording. I will follow-up again via email in 7 days and then we will have a 20-minute follow-up phone or Zoom call after 21 days to assess your progress and determine if another session is needed.

How does RTT work?

RTT works based on the idea that many common human problems have their origins in negative beliefs we form about ourselves or the world. These negative or limiting beliefs are typically formed in early childhood at a time when we are dependent on adults for our survival and don’t have enough knowledge of life to understand that the beliefs are not true and may actually harm us. These beliefs are subconscious, meaning we are not aware of them with our conscious mind. Because we are not aware of them, they will continue operating in the background of our minds, influencing our thoughts, feelings and behaviors, until they are replaced by a new belief.

To illustrate this process, I’ll use myself as an example. I suffered from chronic fatigue for about 30 years. In my RTT session looking at the root cause of the fatigue, I discovered that, when I was young, I formed the beliefs that “I can never be happy until someone understands me”, and “I have to be who others want me to be”. When the RTT practitioner asked me how these beliefs made me feel, I replied “Exhausted”. Bingo! I suddenly knew that the chronic fatigue had all started because I was carrying these negative beliefs around which were really weighing me down and holding me back from being my true self. After that session, the fatigue simply vanished and has not returned.

Does this mean I caused myself to have the issue that I’m seeking help with?

Absolutely not. No one consciously or intentionally gives themselves anxiety, sadness, fears, worries, low confidence, weight problems, etc. You are not to blame for the issues you are dealing with. Please know that your RTT session will be a safe and supportive experience, free of judgment or blame.

Our mind’s main job is to keep us alive. One of the ways it does that is by keeping you away from anything that could harm you. It also does this by trying to ensure, when we are very young, that we will not be abandoned by our caretakers. Our mind is powerful! It can create all sorts of issues or behavioral patterns in order to ensure that we stay alive and don’t get abandoned by our families. These issues and patterns were created for a very good reason at the time, but as we grow up, they usually start to cause more harm than good.

What is “regression”?

Regression is simply a techniquefor revisiting significant memories, or “scenes”, which will reveal the root cause of a person’s issue. The person’s own mind will choose which memories to go back to – the RTT practitioner does not control or influence this in any way.

Regression is used during RTT to help a person gain critical insights into how they came to have a particular issue. During regression, all information from the scenes or memories comes from the client’s own mind, not from suggestions by the practitioner. By gaining these insights into the root cause of an issue, people are often able to free themselves of the issue.

But I’m afraid of “reliving” painful experiences...

Luckily, it is impossible to relive any experiences – you can only review them. As your RTT practitioner, I will guide you through the session in a way that will ensure you feel safe and secure from start to finish. We review old memories or experiences for the sole purpose of freeing you from the pain which they are still causing you today. People report feeling a great sense of freedom after reviewing these old experiences and having insights into how those experiences have contributed to their current issue. Afterward, people are often able to think about distressing events from their past and find that those old memories don’t cause the same negative emotional responses that they used to.

Is this process safe?
Yes! Hypnosis and RTT are very safe. Hypnosis is a natural state which humans go into, and come out of, multiple times during the day. When you drive to work “on autopilot”, that is a state of hypnosis. It’s really just a state of intense inner focus, similar to meditation. People sometimes wonder if they can get “stuck” in hypnosis, but this not possible. If you were put into hypnosis and no one brought you out of it, you would simply open your eyes after a little while and be back in your normal state of consciousness.
I’m afraid of letting go of control. I also don’t want someone to make me think or do things that I don’t want to.
This is a common fear, especially for people who have experienced trauma in their lives. However, let me reassure you that a hypnotist or RTT practitioner cannot make anyone do, think, or say anything that they don’t want to.

During hypnosis, you will only accept information (i.e. “suggestions” from the practitioner) about things which you know are healthy and good for you. For example, if I asked you to stretch your arms out in front of you, you would probably do it because there is nothing inherently dangerous or unhealthy about this. However, if I asked you to go rob a bank, you would not do that because you would know it was not legal or good for you in any way. In other words, you are always in control of your thoughts and actions during an RTT session. If something comes up during one of your memories or “scenes” which you do not wish to share with me, that is perfectly fine. You are fully capable of choosing to say, or not say, anything you wish during the session. The most important thing is always that you understand the significance of the memory, and can see the belief you formed as a result.

Lastly, while hypnotized, you are able to make adjustments to your positioning as needed. You will not be “stuck” in any position, but will remain fully capable of making adjustments for comfort, if you wish.

How many sessions will I need?

Most issues require between 1 and 3 sessions to find – and eliminate – all the negative or limiting beliefs which are contributing to that particular issue. This is why it’s called “Rapid” Transformational Therapy. Whereas some other methods may require weekly sessions for months or years in order to see results, a majority of people will experience positive results with RTT after only 1 – 3 sessions. Marisa Peer designed RTT to deliver results in as little time as possible.

Having said that, it isn’t possible to predict exactly how many sessions a person will need for a given issue. The average is between 1 and 3 sessions, per issue. Very complex issues may require a few additional sessions in some circumstances, though this is rare.

When will I start to feel better after my session?

Though we can’t make any guarantees about results from RTT, studies have indicated that RTT has a very high success rate:  a little over 80% of people will have positive results from their sessions. The rate at which people change after their session is different for everyone, but there are three general ways in which the changes occur: immediately, gradually, and retroactively.

The people who experience immediate positive results will feel better right away. However, it is still crucial that everyone listens to their personalized recording for the full 21 days after the session in order to permanently “wire in” the positive new beliefs, no matter how good they are feeling. The RTT session changes you, but the recording makes the changes permanent. The mind learns by repetition, which is why it is critical to listen for the full 21 days.

The people who change gradually will notice little or big changes gradually over a period of time. For all groups, the positive changes made in an RTT session very often continue to blossom for months afterward.

The last group are those who change “retroactively” which means that they don’t notice how much they’ve changed until something happens and they realize they don’t have the issue or reaction pattern they always used to have in response to that trigger. Then, they look back on the previous weeks or months and realize that they’ve changed a lot but just didn’t notice it as it was happening. Sometimes it’s hard to see ourselves changing until we’ve changed so much that it becomes very obvious. Some of us also need to go through an experience which “tests” us just to reveal how much we have evolved – how much stronger, resilient, confident or secure we’ve become.

Is RTT over Zoom (i.e., via video calling) as effective as RTT in-person?

Yes! It is just as effective to have your session over Zoom as it is to have your session in-person. At this time, all sessions are conducted over Zoom. This allows me to work with clients all over the world. It is particularly beneficial for clients who might otherwise find it difficult to travel to have an in-person session.
